Photography – as a means of creative expression
I first started taking pictures when I was six-years old. My father was a part-time, free-lance photographer who worked in medium format and had his own darkroom. His lessons to me emphasized composition and focus. He developed negatives, printed in black & white and ended up with beautiful portraits and landscapes. While the darkroom was gone before I was old enough to learn the process, his presence over my shoulder, looking at my negatives and prints, left an impression that has fueled a life-long passion.
As a longtime member of the superyacht industry, I’ve taken thousands of pictures of marine equipment, product installations and interesting on-board design features. These pictures document installations and provide engineers and naval architects with creative inspiration to solve application engineering problems. Many of these images have ended up in equipment brochures, distributor catalogs, boat show displays, web pages and some on office walls. See marine equipment and yacht photographs here for some of the more artistic representations of yachts and yachting equipment.
Today my primary interests are travel, architectural, landscape and motorsports photography. I am especially drawn to reflections and repeating design both in nature and the manufactured world, much of my work reinforces this common theme. Regardless of the subject, my goal is to see something in a different way and capture an image that expresses or interprets that vision. Travel photography inspires me to learn something new about the region, people and their architecture that I try to express in my pictures. Ultimately, I want to gain a better understanding of all peoples and the world around me.
