During a springtime visit to Seattle last year Susan and I visited the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum in Seattle Center showcasing the studio glass of Dale Chihuly. We are big fans of his work and have visited installations from New York to St. Petersburg to San Francisco. His inspirations and interpretations are avantgarde and original.
A native of Tacoma, Washington, Dale Chihuly first started working in glass in 1965 at the University of Washington with continuing studies at University of Wisconsin and the Rhode Island School of Design where he established a glass program and taught for more than a decade. His fusing of threads into molten glass evolved over the years into the addition of bits of color and development of technique gained from an apprenticeship in Murano, Italy. Native American blankets and baskets have inspired and propelled his art in interesting and unique directions.
Today his grasp of color and form is in more than 2000 museum collections worldwide and has been translated into huge outdoor installations where uniting color, light, form, and space delivers a uniquely personal and immersive experience. If you have a chance to visit a Chihuly installation or museum you should take the opportunity to experience his creativity and genius. All images were taken with Fuji X100f with 23mm f2.0 lens in RAW format, processed in Lightroom Classic 11.0.1
