The Texas Hill Country is a wonderful region full of historic little settlements, tranquil lakes and rivers, outstanding scenery, legendary BBQ joints, and 100-year-old bars. A fusion of Spanish and German influences in music, architecture, and cuisine Hill Country has a distinctive Texan culture separate from the more Southern and Southwestern influences in the state. The small-town atmosphere has made this area an attractive destination for relocation for families and retirees looking for slower pace communities in which to live.
After a day boating on Canyon Lake and a morning spent relaxing alongside the Guadalupe River my friend Paul and I spent a few days touring about the rolling countryside in his concours restored ’63 Corvette Sting Ray convertible. From brats to BBQ, driving from one little village to the next, connected by exciting two-lane highways and country roads, we were transported to a slower, more contemplative way of life.
Texas Hill Country is where German and Mexican traditions, culture and history combine to present a unique representation of Texas exemplified by it’s friendly people, an original local cuisine surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Texas Hill Country.
